Impounded in Tivat
So here we are berthed amidst the super - yachts. Its now blistering hot.. A fine chance to get the washing done, however we did get a few odd looks as we draped our smalls and sheets over the foredeck. Obviously unusual activity in this posh marina!
So while Colin was contemplating some jobs and doing some spanner stuff I took the opportunity to have a wander.
From our berth we can see building going on so I set off with fairly low expectations. Google had not come up with much relevant information about the town... That's, it transpired, because it is being built, phoenix like, out of a small fairly utilitarian town related to the nearby naval base. The port was bought by a Canadian billionaire who sold it to its current owners.. Dubai!
No expense has been spared in its construction made of dazzling white stone and beautifully landscaped with style and elegance. Pots of mock orange, thyme, lavender festoon the streets between the swanky shops and water features
We wandered into town in the evening and found a buzzing bar playing Cuban jazz. We had just settled in when suddenly water started gushing down into the seating area. People screamed and scattered. There was a tension while everyone tried to understand what had happened . We looked up and saw a chap on a balcony above aiming a hose. The crowd erupted in laughter, people spilled out onto the street and started salsa dancing. More joined in. Grumpy from upsatirs kept redirecting his hose, apparently hoping to disperse the crowd but it just resulted in more squeals and laughter. It went on for about 40 mins before it stopped, presumably under police direction ! It was an episode of spontaneous fun and joy .
One boat that was berthed near us deserves a mention . It is a Sparkman and Stephens . One boat that we have always lusted after... perhaps one day .
Oh ..and a bit of domestic advice. Don't put frozen spinach in your fridge .. especially in hot weather. It makes a very slimy sludge over everything ... Eeeeww.
