A day in Kotor
We awake to a cooler morning...and the miraculously silent arrival of a gigantic cruise ship behind us during the night.
Someone had to do it. I was voted the one, with my recently earned thigh muscles after walking in Scotland.
It was a very steep and bumpy climb on narrow steps hugging the city wall....but at least I had decent shoes on, unlike many others looking exceedingly unwell, puffing as they sweated upwards with big handbags and flip flops.
The view was fantastic and the pilgrimage to the church ensured protection from the plague.. So it was definitely worth it.
Kotor is wonderful. It is Venetian in flavour with tiny alleys and wonderful churches in every viewpoint. Bells chime sequentially and in different pitches.
We anchored in a small bay. U Krtole. A bit of anchoring anxiety lingered after our last experience. We considered every possible contingency, wind direction and unknown unknown. We set 3 anchor, and depth alarms.
Finally settled, we poured our glass of beer to enjoy the sunset. We watched a local getting into a small fishing boat and wending his way to us... 'you need to move... You are in the boat channel!' ... This seemed to be somewhat unnecessary and rather inhospitable, but lo... no sooner was the anchor up when a small ferry arrived from the ether heading our way. The captain waved cheerily as we headed past him off to pastures new... With all alarms blaring ..
So here we are anchor down , alarms reset. We have considered our proximity to the fish farm and much bigger ferry....what can possibly go wrong here???
.. now for that beer!!!
Kotor looks absolutely fantastic. These places are off the beaten track for your average tourist.
