Woodwork envy.
We bumped into Huw and Geoffrey again in Kuoni and enjoyed a late sundowner with them. It turns out that Huw knows M's sister quite well. What a small world it is.
We left Kuoni after emptying the dinghy of dead fish! The kids on the boat next door thought dead fish on deck wonderful. An essay on human nature.
We headed out into the main channel with the intention of heading S to Sami. The wind was against us again but we were pointing well and outperforming several other yachts on the same tack, so what was not to like. We tacked down to the S end of Ithica and then motored the last few miles into Sami.
We met a lovely couple, Eileen and Nick, who were in their first season with an identical Beneteau423 to ours. Same year with the same "perfomance" specifications and the same livery. We were compelled to visit them to discuss experiences. Their boat is in lovely condition with the internal varnish intact and has been kept in pristine condition by the previous owner. A bit jealous, ours is not far behind but they give us something to aim for! Interestingly they had the same issue with a wobbly rudder so I shared my research about the repair required and also the address for the very useful Beneteau 423 user group.
Sami is one of our favourite harbours and we had an excellent meal ashore in the first restaurant you come to leaving the harbour. A very friendly Maitre D' and an excellent spicy pizza.
We are now on the last leg of the journey and need to head N towards Preveza.
A cloudy morning re-inforced the feeling of the end of summer. Before we left Sami M took the opportunity to do some reversing practice in the relatively empty harbour. Full marks and a distinction were awarded so she is now fully certificated for backwards progress.
The wind piped up from the N down the channel between Cephalonia and Ithica and we had further tacking practice up towards Fiskardo. We anchored in our favoiurite bay just S of the town and had a settled peaceful night.
